Edinburgh-based batch craft whisky and rum bottling site and distillery Young Spirits has announced it is now carbon neutral.
The news comes as recent reports reveal that Scotland’s food and drink sector is responsible for approximately 25% of the country’s carbon emissions.
Young Spirits has partnered with carbon offsetting and conservation business Make It Wild to invest in an initiative that reduces its carbon footprint and also actively removes carbon from the atmosphere through tree planting in the UK.
Founded by John Ferguson and Alex Harrison in 2018, Young Spirits is committed to making a positive impact on the planet by embracing eco-friendly practices and offsetting its carbon footprint. The company hailed becoming officially carbon neutral as “another important milestone” in its journey to achieving its ambitious sustainability objectives.
Barbara Russell Scott, Operations Director at Young Spirits, commented: “We are extremely proud that Young Spirits is helping the environment not only now but for decades to come through our carbon initiative. Net zero remains a key commitment for our business.”
