Two SRFDA Gold Award winners, Rizza’s and rora dairy, had further cause for celebration this week with the news that both have emerged as winners in Scotmid’s Scottish Favourites competition.
Peterhead-based rora dairy secured a promotional listing that will bring its Greek Style yogurt to Scotmid stores nationwide for a three-week period.
A hit with the SRFDA judges, Greek Style yogurt stands out for its thick and creamy texture, made using organic milk and live cultures without any additives. It is naturally high in protein, making it a healthy and delicious option enjoyed straight from the pot or as a cooking ingredient.
Jane Mackie, Head of Culture at rora dairy, said: “This is the first time our limited-edition yogurt, previously available only in farm shops and delis, will be sold in a major convenience store. We take pride in our traditional production methods and are thrilled to offer customers across Scotland a taste of our delicious yogurt. We hope Scotmid customers will love it as much as we do!”
Rizza’s of Huntly, a family-run business, struck gold at the SRFDAs with its Double Dairy Gold Ice Cream, which was a winner in 2022’s Scottish Favourites. This year, its Scottish Tablet Ice Cream was victorious, and will be available at Scotmid stores for a limited period, starting 19 June.
Donald Morrison, director at Rizza’s, said: “Winning last year’s competition allowed us to sell our ice cream throughout Scotland, and we’re thrilled to do it again this year.”
Scotmid’s Scottish Favourites competition, run in collaboration with Scotland Food & Drink, aims to showcase regional products with broad appeal and selects five winning products each year.
Jessica van Tromp, Local Sourcing Manager at Scotmid, praised the winners, saying: “Our competition celebrates local Scottish producers, and we are always impressed by the quality of products available in our country. rora’s Greek-style yogurt and Rizza’s Scottish Tablet Ice Cream are both exceptional products and worthy winners. We can’t wait to see them in Scotmid stores!”
