The Single Cask has recruited an eight-strong panel of ‘Taste Masters’ to help in the nosing, tasting, bottling and creation of its single cask whiskies.
The whisky bottler’s Glenrothes warehouse is home to more than 3,000 casks; the panel will work closely with it to tell the story behind each whisky they taste and help profile it into a mood category.
This follows – in a bid to demystify whisky flavour – The Single Cask’s adoption of a system of five mood categories, so drinkers can quickly navigate to whichever whiskies they are in the mood for. The categories include cheerful, playful, bold, curious and easy-going.
Among the panel is award-winning whisky writer Christopher White; fragrance expert Imogen Russon-Taylor; Mark Watt, founder of the Campbeltown Whisky Company; spirits specialist Maria Scala; and Lucy Connor, a recent graduate of the OurWhisky Foundation mentorship programme.
