Ahead of Burns Night (25 January), McIntosh of Strathmore has teamed up with DC Thomson to launch limited-edition packs of its Haggis Neeps & Tatties and Vegetarian Haggis Neeps & Tatties that feature the iconic Scottish comic strip character, Oor Wullie.
Haggis Neeps & Tatties is available from Asda, Co-op, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Scotmid, Spar and Tesco, while the vegetarian option can be found in Aldi, Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s.
A special-edition Oor Wullie comic strip sees the lovable rascal offer to rustle up a Burns Supper for his parents – much to their consternation – only to sneakily heat up a couple of the aforementioned ready meals.McIntosh boss Julie Nisbet commented: “We’re thrilled to join forces with DC Thomson to bring a touch of Oor Wullie to the celebration of Scotland’s national bard, Robert Burns.
“Our consumers grew up with Oor Wullie, so having his family eating a McIntosh meal on our packs is not only a delicious way to honour this cultural tradition but is also a playful nod to the Scottish heritage that both McIntosh and the character is known for.”
Gareth Whelan, editorial director at DC Thomson, added: “Oor Wullie has been part of Scottish culture for generations and we are delighted to collaborate with McIntosh on what is a ready-made partnership for Burns Night.
“Wullie is never happier than when food is involved, and this Burns supper scran definitely meets with his approval.”
