Award-winning Livingston rum distiller, Matugga, is raising a glass to securing a listing with the Co-op.
Two of Matugga’s artisan spirits are now available at more than 50 Co-op stores in Scotland.
These are Liv Black Spiced Rum, produced using Scottish heather, and Honey & Lavender Rum Liqueur, which is made with Scottish honey and locally foraged lavender.
Matugga is owned by husband and wife duo Paul and Jacine Rutasikwa.
Jacine commented: “Our business draws on my Jamaican roots, the socialising and food and drink element of Paul’s life in Uganda and, we mix that with the botanicals and distilling heritage of Scotland to create our distinctive taste.”
She said the listing came at an important time for the business: “The additional awareness, reach and availability from being stocked in our local Co-op and in communities across the country is a huge boost. We are delighted to be working with Co-op.”
Kevin Buchan, Co-op Local Sourcing Buying Manager, Scotland, said: “We are delighted to be working closely with local distillers. Co-op is all about connecting communities, making a difference and creating value locally, and our work to celebrate and support local suppliers and to promote great Scottish food and drink is a cornerstone of this approach.”
