Lidl is calling on Scottish food and drink producers to help it fulfil its predictions of what will be in the nation’s shopping baskets next year.
The call came as the supermarket launched the Lidl Guid Food Guide, which offers a glimpse of the future of food and drink in Scotland.
Bringing together insights from Lidl’s in-house Scottish buying team as well as consumer research and the knowledge of an expert industry panel, the guide showcases the diverse and ever-evolving tastes of the nation – going far beyond shortbread and haggis.
For Scottish food and drink producers, there is now the chance to pitch product ideas to Lidl as it plans its promotions for next year. The supermarket is seeking suppliers with produce that might enter the mainstream, with homegrown biltong, bone broth and honeyberries highlighted in the guide.
Scottish stalwarts are also open to innovation with spicy Scotch pies, saucy venison steaks and savoury chilli oil-topped porridge predicted to prove popular.
Globally-inspired ingredients also make the list with research showing Scots will be shopping for black garlic, crispy chilli oil, kefir and kombucha next year.
