Equi’s has been named Scottish Ice Cream Champion at this year’s Royal Highland Show.
The Rutherglen-based producer came out top of 140 entries for the category, as part of the Scottish Dairy Championships.
It won with its signature Double Cream Vanilla, a luxury product made using “lashings of milk and cream” from local dairy farms infused with natural Madagascan bourbon vanilla.
Equi’s was also crowned Overall Dairy Champion in recognition of “outstanding quality and excellence across all dairy categories”.
David Equi, owner of the fourth-generation family business, commented: “We are incredibly honoured to receive these awards.
“This achievement is testament to our dedication and passion for excellence in ice cream. We couldn’t be prouder of everyone at Team Equi’s.”
David also gave a “huge well done” to Reserve Overall Dairy Champion, Park Farm Dairy, which supplies Equi’s. “They provide all of the fresh local whole milk that helps make our ice cream so special,” he explained.
The Royal Highland Show is one of Scotland’s biggest events and celebrates the best of Scotland’s agricultural industry, attracting thousands of visitors and exhibitors each year.
Aylett Roan, chief steward of the Scottish Championships for the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland, said the ice cream judging panel had an incredibly difficult task that was possibly “the most desirable job of the show”.
Equi’s Double Cream Vanilla has listings in a number of stores, including Asda, Morrisons and Spar.
