Edinburgh’s Cold Town Brewery has launched its first canned craft lager.
With bars, pubs and restaurants around Scotland forced to temporarily close during lockdown, the independent brewer has made its flagship craft lager available for beer lovers to buy direct from selected local retailers and delivered straight to their door.
Brewed by hand in small batches, Cold Town’s craft lager can now be purchased in packs of 330ml cans from eight Margiotta Food & Wine stores across Edinburgh; Woodwinters in Bridge of Allan and Edinburgh; and The Cave in Glasgow.
It can also be found on the web at the Cold Town Beer online shop, as well as Best of British Beer, Hoppily, Beersniffers, Brew Republic, Amazon, Liquid Vault and Flavourly.
Tasting notes describe the brew as: “A crisp, fresh, session-able and refreshing lager that doesn’t sacrifice mouthfeel and flavour. A malty backbone gives the base for this tasty tipple, leading to delicate top notes of citrus and elderflower.”
The brewery uses Scottish Pale Malt from Crisp Malt in Alloa as the base malt across its range. The maltings at Alloa date back to the 1890s and so are continuing a long tradition of making malt for Scottish beer production. Crisp Malt works with farmers on long-term agreements to support their livelihoods and businesses. The barley is 100% Scottish and is sourced from the east coast, which makes it perfect for Cold Town Beer.
The 4% ABV craft lager was the first creation of Ed Evans, Head Brewer at Cold Town when the brewery opened in 2018.
He commented: “All of our brews begin their journey in bars, and then are brought online when we feel that we’ve received a seal of approval from our customers who drink them and the bar teams who help create them.”
Cold Town lager is available to buy direct from the Cold Town Beer online shop in packs of 12 x 330ml cans for £21 and packs of 24 for £42 to drink at home. Next day delivery is available on all mainland UK orders made by 1pm Monday to Friday.
