Airdrie-based potato supplier Albert Bartlett has provided the equivalent of a landmark 15 million meals to FareShare, as part of a 15-year-long partnership that supports the charity’s mission to tackle food waste for social good.
The Heart of Scotstoun in Glasgow is just one of the many charities that are supported by FareShare that has used the surplus potatoes supplied by Albert Bartlett to support its community café and provide food to help families, individuals and vulnerable groups access fresh, nutritious meals.
The café relies on donations from FareShare, including Albert Bartlett potatoes, to keep costs low. The versatility of potatoes makes them a key ingredient for meals that can suit all tastes, providing sustenance for the café and the food store alike.
Julie Cunningham, community manager at The Heart of Scotstoun, said: “The donations from FareShare, particularly Albert Bartlett potatoes, have made a huge difference to our community. Potatoes are versatile and nutritious, allowing us to create a variety of hearty meals for the people we serve.”
The milestone comes at a time when demand for FareShare’s services continues to grow, with rising living costs putting pressure on families and communities across the country.
John Heginbottom, director at Albert Bartlett, said: “We are proud to have worked with FareShare for 15 years, helping to ensure surplus food is put to good use rather than going to waste. Reaching 15 million meals is a testament to the dedication of everyone involved – from our farmers to FareShare’s volunteers, and the incredible charities like The Heart of Scotstoun. We look forward to continuing this partnership and making a difference in communities across Glasgow and beyond.”
