Broughton Ales is celebrating three industry awards for its Old Jock beer.
The Scottish ale, which has been in production for 40 years, won SIBA Scotland’s overall best cask ale and a gold award in the strong ale category last September. This was followed in December with the Campaign for Real Ale’s Champion Strong Ale of Scotland Award. These successes mean Old Jock will be flying the flag for Scotland in both SIBA and CAMRA’s UK finals, which take place in the spring.
David McGowan of Broughton Ales commented: “As we celebrate the 40th anniversary of Old Jock, the brand has achieved remarkable success in the last five years, with a 100% Nielsen sales growth and a host of awards from our peers at SIBA and from beer fans at CAMRA.
“Entering 2024, we are looking to extend distribution of Old Jock Scotch Ale into other parts of the UK, particularly in off-trade outlets and at on-trade beer festivals. Old Jock in bottles is now a top five bottled ale in Scottish off-trade and our message to retailers is that Old Jock is a must stock.”
The brewery put Old Jock’s success down to the fact that is hand crafted using open fermentation vessels, which give the beer its “unique award-winning flavour”.
